DNA ancestry is a modern advancement that has really made the news in the last few years. DNA tests illuminate your DNA Genealogy and give very accurate results. There are three types of DNA tests:
Male Ancestry This is based on the Y chromosome DNA, which is passed unchanged from father to son. This is a direct paternal or the male part of the ancestry line.
This is known as Mitochondrial DNA, which is passed unchanged from mother to her child. This is a direct maternal or the female part of the ancestry line. You may hear articles refer to the mtDNA. The mtDNA stands for the mitochondrial DNA and is passed down from the mother to the child.
This is used to Identity DNA based on known knowledge of all population around the world from previous results, and by matching your DNA, this can reveal where your roots were most likely to of come from and is currently a comparison of over 250 countries. Estimates suggest that everyone has approximately 65,000 traceable ancestors, meaning ancestors whose existence can be documented in surviving records.
Currently there are 30 major maternal lineages that have been identified through DNA categorisation in the world, so these results are sure to provide a very clear grouping.
The test can reveal all sorts of detailed information including a list of present day population matches, the genetic matches plotted on a world map and some will break it down to the specific DNA patterns found in regions. For those of you that have taken a DNA test in the past, you no doubt have found the results of the test stunning and yet so very informative.
