In the early 1900 Corner of Muccleshell and Wimborne Road was Smith's Undertakers and Wheelwright Winton Carriage Works. To this day (2006) it is still an undertakers. Over a period of time the house which is set back from the Wimborne Road was extended into the pavement and today the new shop covers the front. This picture shows the funeral of a local lady Edna Smith on the 15th June 1929
In 1930 Winton had really blossomed with a very well established tram system. Also the familiar parade of shops that is known from winton banks Talbot Road through to Leslie Road which now has boots on the corner is seen in this shot that was probably taken from the top of the Continental Cinema. Today this picture can be seen on the before and after gallery . Winton Dairy in the picture is currently Abbey National Bank. In the distance you can see Leslie Road, this shop on the corner is now a more modern 1970s building Boots the chemist.
This is a photo a few years later - same premises this time on 17th April 1934 and this time showing the funeral cortege of the late Walter Smith. Both pictures are currently showing in the window of the funeral directors. Assumption is made that both Edna and Walter were the founders of the business. To this day (2006) it is still smith's undertakers on Wimborne Road .
In the short period between 7th and 28th June 1935, both trams and trolleybuses operated in service along Wimborne road from Cemetry Junction to Moordown. Sunbeam MS2 98 (ALJ 972) is seen in the picture passing tram 112 at Peter's Hill.
