The bingo hall is now being gutted as we speak. I believe many new flats will be going in there place.
One of the few family businesses to remain throughout the growth of Winton is the Smiths Funeral directors. I suppose it true to say that business seems to never run out, but in this case it has also expanded. With this current photo showing how the shop has extended forward from the old building that can be seen in the 1929 photo.
This unusaul landmark has now disappeared. Unusaul as it was a building that had claim to being the first cinema in Winton. Unusaul because it had beautiful architecture and a famous weather vain on the roof, and unusaul as it eventually lowered itself to a seedy cinema. Now there is no remains, the site is now the new pub built in 1982 the Hop and Kilderkin.
Heading into Moordown, opposite Barrie Road we see the bus depot area which was pulled down and the site was used to build a new Supermarket on currently Somerfields. To the side was the original chappel, which for years was used by Willis the builders merchant. The newsagent opposite has also now dissappeared.
In recent years Wimborne road has continued to prosper as a busy shopping centre. Against a lot of criticsm and competition from nearby Bournemouth Town centre and the new Castle Point shopping centre, Winton and Moordown survive and actually continue to grow, with its own Farmers Market and Carnival in 2006.
